1929年に完成したこの建物は、翌年に正式開校した理学部の本館として使用されていました。こちらの1955年の写真には、理学部創立25周年を記念して開催された催しの賑やかな様子が収められています。1999年には、この歴史的建造物が北海道大学総合博物館として使用されることが決まりました。大規模な改修を経て、現在、400万点を超える学術標本を保管し、北大の研究と学生、研究者、地域社会をつなぐ交流の場となっています。

The Hokkaido University Museum (Formerly Faculty of Science Main Building)

Completed in 1929, this building originally served as the main building for the Faculty of Science, which officially opened the following year. This 1955 photo captures a lively public opening held to celebrate the faculty’s 25th anniversary. In 1999, the historic structure was chosen to house the newly established Hokkaido University Museum. Today, following major renovations, the same 1929 building stands as a dynamic public space holding over four million scientific specimens, connecting world-class research with students, researchers, and visitors alike.
