Commemorative Ceremony
Over two days, September 26 and 27, 2026, Hokkaido University will hold its 150th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony and related events at the Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru and the Sapporo Cultural Arts Community Center SCARTS. In addition to invited guests from Japan and abroad, these events will be open to the public, with an emphasis on both celebration and participation. Through the entire program, the University will honor its 150-year history while also presenting its vision, values, and commitment to society for the future.

■ 150th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony

The opening and commemorative ceremony will include a screening of a commemorative video presenting the University’s 150-year history, as well as ceremonial addresses and congratulatory remarks from distinguished guests. The President will deliver a message for the future, and the ceremony—featuring a performance by the Hokkaido University Symphony Orchestra—will symbolize this important milestone in the University’s history.

Following the ceremony, a special talk will be held as part of the 150th-anniversary commemorative program. The program will introduce individuals who have contributed to the anniversary projects and to the development of the University, and will feature a panel discussion among Hokkaido University researchers. Alumni active both in Japan and internationally will also take part and share messages for the future.

Planned events include presentations by doctoral students on research results contributing to society, workshops for children, panel exhibitions introducing the University’s latest research, a commemorative photo exhibition, exhibitions of student extracurricular activities, and a commemorative concert by the Hokkaido University Symphony Orchestra.

Commemorative Concert
Performed by the Hokkaido University Symphony Orchestra. Guest performers include conductor Satoshi Nomura (B.Eng., 1986) and pianist Shunji Sano (M.D., 2019). Admission free.

Science Festa: “150 Futures” (tentative title)
Poster presentations in which doctoral students present their advanced research in ways accessible to the general public.

Kita no Marché
Food, beverages, and original university goods will be sold by companies associated with Hokkaido University.

Attendance at the Commemorative Ceremony & Events
Invitations to the commemorative ceremony, commemorative program, and commemorative reception will be sent to invited guests sequentially beginning after Japan’s Golden Week holidays in May 2026.
